Many folks in eastern Oklahoma know BA to mean Broken Arrow, but according to Business Week Magazine, it could also stand for "Best Affordable." Broken Arrow was highlighted in a recent issue of the magazine. Broken Arrow was one of 25 suburbs named "Best Affordable in the South."
According to the magazine, the South has added close to 9 million residents over the last several years. Cities were rated on cost of living, crime rate and quality of schools. Gary Staton and his family used to live in Tulsa but decided to move to Broken Arrow because of new developments.
Staton says his house in most other parts of the U.S. would have cost him double. "Oklahoma in general is very affordable. And the atmosphere, the environment around this area is very upbeat, very modern."
Broken Arrow city officials say it is nice to see others noticing their community. BA was the only suburb in Oklahoma named to the list. Other cities include Abilene, Texas; Lexington Kentucky; and Richmond Virginia.
