TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) -- The Environmental Protection Agency is giving its Clean Air Excellence Award to the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma.

The EPA established the award in 2000 to recognized innovative efforts that help make progress in cleaning the air.

The tribe is receiving the award for community action for its program of monitoring air quality in both Oklahoma and New Mexico.
