Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor is calling on everyone to make sure no one goes hungry, it’s the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s goal everyday, but it needs you to make it happen.
June 3-10 is Hunger Awareness Week, to kick off the week the food bank hosted a fundraiser with plenty of free hot dogs, soda and ice cream, at its new facility at 1304 North Kenosha Avenue. Everyone who attended was asked to bring a canned food item or make a donation to the Food Bank.
"They feed 50,000 families a week, we have a high, high rate of hunger in Northeast Oklahoma," said Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.
According to the Food Bank, Oklahoma ranks eighth in the nation for the number of people who aren't getting enough to eat. That's why some organizations in the state are asking you to take the Food Stamp Challenge, where you eat on just $21 dollars for an entire week.
