It was suppose to be the happiest day of their lives, but passport problems spoiled their honeymoon. Now comes a warning from a Bartlesville couple. By now we've heard nightmares across the country involving passport delays. New rules are to blame for the back log. One couple says they thought they'd done everything right, but it wasn't enough. News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports now, they feel cheated.
After a year of planning, one couple became a family. It was the ceremony of Brittany and Jeremy Bush's dream, and they were suppose go to Aculpulco to celebrate.
"We're supposed to be on our honeymoon actually in Aculpulco at this point,†said Jeremy Bush. “We were supposed to leave on the 26th of May. We had everything set up two months prior in advance put in for our expedited passports.â€
But getting them wouldn't be easy. New rules require anyone flying to places like the Caribbean, Mexico, and Canada to have passport. It's created a huge back log all across the country and in Bartlesville. Brittany Bush says she got her passport a week before the big day, but Jeremy Bush's didn't come to almost a week later, grounding any hopes for a honeymoon.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I mean you get married and you go on your honeymoon,†said Brittany Bush. “It's been cancelled and they're telling us today their exact words were our reservations have no value. The hotel wasn't going to reimburse us and Cheaptickets wasn't going to reimburse us."
So they're frustrated and out thousands of dollars.
“At this point we're really lost and just trying to see how it goes,†said Jeremy Bush.
The Bush's encourage everyone to get a passport at least six months before taking a trip. By the way, if you travel by land or sea to Canada, the Caribbean, or Mexico, you have until January 2008 to get a passport.
