OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Chance Wheeless went 4-4 and drove in 2 runs as Texas held off Nebraska 5-4 on Saturday in the final game for both teams in the Big 12 Conference baseball tournament.
Top-seeded Texas (44-15) finished 2-1 in pool play and tied with Texas A&M, but the Aggies advanced to Sunday's title game based on a head-to-head win over Texas earlier in the tournament.
Fifth-seeded Texas A&M (43-16) will play the winner of Saturday's late game between 7th-seeded Oklahoma and 6th-seeded Baylor for the tournament title.
Fourth-seeded Nebraska (30-25) finished 1-2 in pool play.
Wheeless had a run-scoring single in the 1st inning and added another in a 2-run 3rd inning for the Longhorns. In between, Preston Clark hit his eighth home run of the season for Texas off Nebraska starter Johnny Dorn (9-3).
Texas led 4-1 after the top of the 3rd. Nebraska pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run single by Jake Opitz, but the Cornhuskers managed only 4 hits the rest of the way off Texas relievers Austin Wood (8-1) and Randy Boone, who recorded his 13th save.
Trailing 5-4 in the 8th, Nebraska left the bases loaded when Jeff Lanning hit into a force play.
