OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Craig Stinson hit a grand slam in the third inning on Thursday to lift Texas A&M past Texas 7-3 in a pool-play game in the Big 12 Conference baseball tournament.
Texas A&M (42-16) moved to 1-1 in the tournament, while Texas (43-15) dropped to 1-1. Both teams have one game remaining in pool play, on Saturday.
Jordan Danks and Chance Wheeless hit run-scoring singles for Texas in the top of the third to put the Longhorns ahead 2-1, but the Aggies responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Hicks drove in the first run when he was hit by a pitch from James Russell (8-4) with the bases loaded.
With two outs, Stinson homered over the left-field wall, his 11th home run of the season.
Texas A&M extended its lead to 7-2 in the fifth on a solo home run by Blake Stouffer. Texas scored once in the seventh, on a RBI single by Bradley Suttle.
Texas A&M starter Kirkland Rivers (2-3) allowed seven hits and five walks while striking out three batters in 6 2/3 innings. Kyle Nicholson pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the Aggies, allowing no runs.
