Local leaders are planning for Tulsa’s future. The News On 6’s Ashli Sims reports it’s time to update the master plan for the city, and officials want your help. Plan-It Tulsa is not a new, heavenly body, but a command, Plan It! The ‘it’ being your ideal Tulsa.
A phone book thick document holds the city's master plan. It hasn't been updated since the 1970s, and city leaders want the new version to reflect your views. So the Plan It Tulsa folks are logging every idea and innovation made by the public. They’ve had about 50 meetings including about 1,200 people, and sometimes the writers can barely keep up with the brainstorming.
Folks have commented about everything from roads and infrastructure to possibly changing the way city government is run to include a more regional focus. Organizers say for the most part participants aren't slamming Tulsa, they're just trying to make the city better.
"They're really trying to come up with aspects of a quality future. The weaknesses are just a guide to come up with innovations that they think the community needs," said Sandra Langenkemp with Steering Committee.
Langenkemp says the community needs to get involved because this is your chance to literally shape the Tulsa of tomorrow.
