GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (AP) -- President Bush, en route to a weekend at his Texas ranch, stopped outside Richmond on Friday to raise $630,000 for the Virginia Republican Party.
The president and his wife, Laura, were joined by about 120 people at the fundraiser on the sprawling estate of Rick and Sherry Sharp. Rick Sharp is chairman of both CarMax, the Fortune 500 used car retailer, and Crocs Inc., the maker of the popular rubber shoes.
The event was closed to the media.
The Bushes are spending the weekend in Crawford, Texas. On Sunday and Monday, they will host NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and his wife, Jeannine.
