CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) _ The director of the J.M. Davis Arms and Historical Museum in Claremore is resigning after less than a year on the job.

John Cummings will step down May 31s to become a special ranger for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in Fort Worth, Texas. He will investigate thefts such as cattle rustling in eastern Oklahoma.

The museum has more than 13-thousand firearms and more than 36-thousand other artifacts such as American Indian items, saddles and musical instruments.

Cummings is a retired Claremore police officer and was hired after an audit criticized the museum's record keeping.

Museum curator Jason Schubert will serve as interim director until a permanent replacement is found.
