OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Federal and state emergency management officials Wednesday began surveying damage caused by recent spring storms in 19 Oklahoma counties. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Oklahoma Department of Transportation sent teams to each of the four quadrants of the state.

Among the towns visited today was Sweetwater in far western Oklahoma, where a tornado traveled more than seven miles on the ground and significantly damaged a school.

The three-day assessment will also include stops at sites where tornadoes touched down in Canadian, Oklahoma and Seminole counties.

State Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten says it's too soon to say whether Oklahoma will qualify for federal assistance as a result of the storms.
