WEB EXCLUSIVE: Student Rocket Launched

The Tulsa Rocketry Club launched a 9' tall rocket Sunday afternoon from a sod farm near Leonard. The rocket was carrying student-developed science payloads and was expected to reach an altitude between 5,000 and 10,000 feet. The rocket was 5.5 inches in diameter and weighed 28 pounds.

Sunday's launch was the second annual launch of a â€˜RocketScienceâ€™ payload rocket, developed by the Tulsa Rocketry Club. The experiments on board were developed by students from Sperry Middle School under the guidance of science teacher Mike Jones. The student experiments measured air pressure using an electronic barometric pressure sensor.

The flight was sponsored by Flight Safety International, HobbyTown USA and Impulse Aerospace.
