OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Roads throughout the Oklahoma City metropolitan area have been inundated after thunderstorms dumped heavy rains on the area. Midwest City officials say Northeast 23rd Street between Sooner Road and Air Depot was closed for a time because of high water. The road was reopened at 6:15 p.m.
Farther to the west and south, Oklahoma City street crews reported receiving calls about high water, particularly all along South 15th Street.
The road had problems at Southeast 15th between Byers and High. Aerial footage showed water swamping streets and parking lots in the area and some motorists getting stranded when their vehicles stalled as they drove through the water.
High water also was reported at Southwest 15th and Blackwelder and at Lindsay.
Most of the locations seeing trouble were in south Oklahoma City, although Northwest 50th and May, Northeast 21st and Walnut and Northwest 9th and Shartel also reported problems.
