OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Fifty World War Two veterans from LeFlore and Sequoyah counties will leave Friday for Washington, D.C., to visit the National World War II Memorial. Their expenses are being paid from $84,000 raised by state Senator Kenneth Corn and Representatives Bud Smithson and Neil Brannon.
Corn says donations came from schoolchildren, fire departments, community leaders and private individuals in the two counties and from the Choctaw Nation.
Corn says the men are now mostly in their 80s and 90s and otherwise may never have a chance to see the memorial.
In addition to the 50 another 17 veterans are making the trip at their own expense.
