WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Bush and China's President Hu Jintao agreed on Wednesday that North Korea must fulfill its pledge to abandon nuclear weapons.
The two leaders talked by telephone as Bush flew on Air Force One to Kansas to see the destruction caused by a devastating tornado last week.
Bush said he welcomed a visit to Washington of Vice Premier Wu Yi later this month to discusss economic issues.
``The two leaders also agreed on the need for North Korea to move forward in implementing its obligations under the Feb. 13 agreement and agreed to work closely together towards that end,'' National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.
North Korea missed an April 14 deadline to shutter its main nuclear reactor, which was specified as the first implementation phase of the Feb. 13 disarmament agreement.
Bush and Hu are to see each other at the Group of Eight summit of industrialized nations in Germany next month.
