A proposal to stop taxpayer funded abortions isn't dead yet. State Senator James Williamson will try one more time on Wednesday to override Governor Brad Henry's veto of the bill. Williamson says he's still working to get enough votes for the override.

The bill would have banned taxpayer money for abortions except to save the life of the mother. The latest News On 6, â€œTulsa Worldâ€ Oklahoma poll of likely voters shows 67% do not believe all abortions should be prohibited. Eighty-one percent believe abortion should be legal to save the life of the mother.

It's a little less in cases of rape and incest, at 65%.

Seventy-five percent of Oklahomans polled say they believe abortion is a medical decision involving the woman and her doctor. Only 17% believe it's a legal and moral decision to be decided by the government.

The poll, taken at the end of April, has a statewide sample size of 750 likely voters. The margin of error is 3.5%.
