BURNS FLAT, Okla. (AP) -- A western Oklahoma site officially becomes the nation's sixth licensed spaceport.
The Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority spent Friday celebrating its status as an official launch site. The Federal Aviation Administration granted the Oklahoma Spaceport a launch site license in June.
It's still a couple of years before the Oklahoma City-based company known as Rocketplane Kistler will be able to launch tourists into space from the spaceport at Burns Flat, but OSIDA executive director Bill Khourie says the spaceport is ready for customers.
The Oklahoma site joins other commercial licensed spaceports in Florida, Virginia, Alaska and California, which has two of the sites.
