TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Oral Roberts will lose one baseball scholarship and a fraction of another after the team failed to meet NCAA academic standards.
The NCAA announced the penalty today as part of its release of Academic Progress Rate information on all Division One schools. It will be imposed next season.
Oral Roberts spokesman Cris Belvin says the scholarship reductions were the result of the team losing two ineligible players. One of the players signed a professional contract, and the other failed to complete one necessary class before transferring to a junior college.
The university also received a warning that it must raise its APR score or else face more severe penalties.
