Peeping Tom Suspect Sought

A victim of some hi-tech peeping in a Sand Springs restaurant bathroom decided to take matters into her own hands. The woman was sitting in a stall when she looked up and made a horrifying discovery. It was a dining experience Norita Bridges certainly never wants to repeat. It happened last week at a Sand Springs cafe. The News on 6â€™s Heather Lewin reports although terribly embarrassed, she says she hopes what she ultimately did will keep other people's privacy from being violated.

It was in the bathroom of a Sand Springs restaurant that Bridges got a nasty surprise.

â€œI noticed that in the bottom of this hanging silk plant there was this little basket, and it had a hole in the bottom of the basket so I went and looked up in there, and I could see glass," said Bridges.

She climbed up, looked in the plant and was shocked to find a video camera inside.

â€œIt was sitting right over the toilet, aimed right on the toilet," she said. "I was just, I was horrified, because I couldn't find it before I did anything of course. It was just so embarrassing."

Bridges says she thought about all the other women who might've been caught on camera and didn't know it. So she decided right then to take action.

Bridges says she had seen a male employee come out of women's room, just before she went in. She grabbed the camera and marched out to confront the manager.

â€œThe store owner said don't call the police, I'll handle it,â€ said Bridges.

But Bridges took the camera with her, knowing she was on the tape and headed straight for the cops.

â€œEven if it was embarrassing, I had to do the right thing to keep other people from this happening to them," she said.

Police released a picture of the suspect, but little else. They say the cafe owner claimed he always paid the man in cash, had no legal paperwork on him, like a social security number and didn't know where he lived.

Bridges is frustrated and fears he'll just go somewhere else and do it again.

â€œI would imagine that I was not the first person he got on video,â€ Bridges said. â€œI just can't believe that he got caught the first time he did it. So I would think that he's been taking these and uploading them to the internet and selling them."

Sand Springs Police will not release the tape, but say it shows the suspect adjusting the camera, then captured the victim. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the suspect's identity to call 918-246-2539.
