CAHOKIA, Ill. (AP) _ Fire swept through a home near St. Louis early Friday, killing four people, authorities said.

Officials did not immediately released the victims' identities, but family and neighbors outside the home said a woman and her three children lived there.

Roger Lourwood, the assistant chief of the Cahokia Fire Department, confirmed that four people had died in the fire, which started shortly after midnight.

Cahokia is about six miles southeast of St. Louis.
