OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has removed all seven members of its Oklahoma executive committee members for failing to have enough youth chapters in the state.
Region Six Director Claude Foster says the NAACP counted only five youth chapters in Oklahoma at a regional conference this month. The national organization requires at least six chapters for adults and six for youths in each state.
Foster says Oklahoma has started the process to get back in good standing by filing an application for a sixth youth chapter.
The Baltimore-based organization plans a telephone conference call next week to determine how to govern the state group until new leaders can be elected.
Foster says the NAACP's advocacy will not be affected by the reorganization.
