NORMAN, Okla. (AP) A freight car carrying corn breaks apart and loses some of its load Sunday morning, but does not derail.

Norman assistant fire chief Bob Bledsoe says the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train bound for Fort Worth, Texas, had stopped just before 8 a.m., then restarted after another train passed.

He says the back rails on a single car in the first train came off, but the wheels and the car both stayed on the tracks.

Bledsoe says the conductor immediately noticed something was not right and that it's fortunate the accident happened at low speed.

The corn spill blocked traffic for a time on a major thoroughfare in north Norman. There were no injuries.
