OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A 3-year-old boy drowned Wednesday after he was apparently left unattended in the bathtub for a few minutes, police said.

Police Capt. Steve McCool said William Barnard was taken to The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead around 4:30 p.m.

Officers were called to the southeast Oklahoma City house at 3:42 p.m. and arrived to find that the boy wasn't breathing. His mother told officers she had left him unattended so she could prepare a bottle for her 6-month-old child, McCool said.

Police investigators were determining whether the family's two other children -- the 6-month-old and a 5-year-old -- should be taken into protective custody, McCool said.
