TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free-agent quarterback Jeff Garcia. And they've obtained the rights to Jake Plummer from Denver, adding two quarterbacks to compete with Chris Simms next season.
Garcia led Philadelphia to the playoffs last season, filling in for an injured Donovan McNabb. But the 37-year-old q-b made it known he wanted to be a starter again next season and that was unlikely to happen in Philly with a healthy McNabb back in uniform.
Garcia agreed to terms a day after talking with the Oakland Raiders.
Plummer, who reportedly was threatening to retire if he was traded to the Bucs, was sent to Tampa for a conditional 2008 draft choice, according to the Broncos.
Simms is the incumbent starter, who missed the final 13 games of last season with a ruptured spleen.
