LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ An Arkansas soldier has been convicted of negligent homicide for the shooting death of a fellow guardsman in Iraq.

Spc. Daniel E. Turner was convicted Monday in Baghdad and sentenced to 15 months in a military prison, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Saturday.

He is being held at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait until his conviction is formalized, the newspaper said.

Turner was convicted for the death of Spc. Derek Plowman, 20, of Everton, Ark.

The circumstances surrounding Plowman's death have not been released by the military. The Defense Department did not immediately return a message seeking comment Saturday.

As part of a pretrial agreement, Turner also received a bad conduct discharge, forfeited pay and was reduced in rank to private.

``The forfeitures are suspended right now,'' said Maj. Steve Zega, 142nd judge advocate. ``In other words, they're still paying him right now. I understand the reason they worked that out is he has a very young child at home.''

The Charlie Battery returned home last week from its yearlong deployment in Iraq.
