TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Poultry companies being sued by Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson say he shouldn't be using private attorneys on the case.

Edmondson is suing these companies for polluting the Illinois River watershed with chicken litter.

Defendants filed a motion seeking to either have the case dismissed or the private lawyers booted. They say these lawyers might be tempted to place personal gain ahead of the public good.

The AG's office says it needs private attorneys with expertise in environmental law to work on the case.

They say the poultry companies are just trying to shift focus from the pollution that's being dumped in the river.
