Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor and the company that operates the BOk and Tulsa Convention Centers have announced their pick for general manager. Six In The Morning reporter Carina Sonn reports John Bolton says he would like to see Tulsa become a 'concert and event mecca,' centered around the BOk center.
Bolton says tours that might not have thought twice about stopping in Tulsa in the past, may now take a second look.
Bolton managed 5 different facilities in Evansville, Indiana including an arena a little smaller than the BOk Center. It only seats 12,500 people compared to BOk's 18,000. Bolton will go straight to work on next year's budgets, and meet with clients and tenants in both the Tulsa Convention Center and the new event center.
Bolton says continued success starts with the grand opening in September 2008. "We want to make sure that the grand opening period is great and it sustains itself for a long time, that we really can develop concert-going habits for people in Tulsa, but also for people in the surrounding region."
John Bolton will oversee the renovation of the Tulsa Convention Center into a large ballroom, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2008. He says the two venues will work closely together to attract events.
