TORONTO (AP) _ Former NFL quarterback Mike McMahon signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old McMahon played 29 games in five NFL seasons, starting 14 of them. A fifth round draft pick in 2001 by the Lions, McMahon spent four seasons in Detroit before signing with Philadelphia before the 2005 season.

He started the final seven games for the Eagles in 2005 after Donovan McNabb suffered a season-ending injury. The Eagles went 2-5 with McMahon behind center.

McMahon is a career 44.5 percent passer with 15 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

A four-year starter at Rutgers, McMahon set several school records and was second all-time with 41 touchdown passes and 6,608 yards when he graduated.

After being released by the Eagles in March 2006, McMahon was signed by the Minnesota Vikings but was cut last September.
