A convicted rapist who had been helping coach a 12- and 13-year-old girls' basketball team in Prague, is out of a job.
Albert Thorpe had been an assistant coach for the team for the past 3 months.
Thorpe was convicted and given ten years probation in 1992 of raping and sodomizing a 14-year-old girl who played on the school's middle school basketball team. Under laws in effect at the time his name was removed from the sex offender registry when his probation ended.
Thorpe's attorney issued a statement Monday saying Thorpe will immediately stop all coaching-related activities involving students younger than 18.
The team is not affiliated with the Prague school district but several of the girls are students in the district and the team uses the school's gym for practices.
