A lot of folks are choosing to ride the bus to work, because it saves them gas money. But those bus passengers are also getting some discounts from Tulsa area merchants.
6 In The Morning reporter Carina Sonn reports Tulsa Transit has rolled out its EZ Rider program. Now your bus pass means money off at restaurants, sports venues and retail stores. Tulsa Transit officials say the discount is good for all bus passes, whether it's an all day or one month pass.
There is currently more than 30 merchants participating in the program. Bill Cartwright is the General Manager of Tulsa Transit and he hopes EZ Rider will encourage people to take their first transit trip and says it's meant to be more than just a bus pass. "This is an idea that we actually got from Japan, Osaka Japan, they're doing this same type of program and the whole idea is to add value to the transit trip."
Tulsa Transit saw ridership increase by almost 30 percent after gas prices spiked above $3 per gallon and ridership has remained at a consistent level since then.
You can buy the EZ Rider passes at QuikTrip stores and the two Tulsa Transit stations. To find out more about the EZ Rider program visit Tulsa Transit's website.
