There is still more than a month left until we see the number of flu cases go down. That means it's not too late to get a flu shot.
6 In The Morning reporter Carina Sonn reports officials with the Tulsa City-County Health Department say it's been an average flu season and that is the good news. But there's still about 4 to 6 weeks left to get the flu.
Officials with the Tulsa City-County Health Department say this season is on par with the last couple of years. They are seeing clusters of children with the sickness.
Matthew Sharpe with the health department encourages high-risk groups like the young and elderly to get vaccinated. "Flu mist will provide a more rapid immune response, so within just four or five days they can have immunity protection against this years flu that's circulating around."
The flu shot takes a little longer, about 10 to 14 days for full immunity.
The Tulsa City-County Health Department is offering free flu vaccinations in several locations around the Tulsa area.
