NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma is beginning to follow Kansas' lead when it comes to wind energy.

In the state Capitol, Governor Brad Henry and lawmakers have proposed legislation to encourage development and use of alternative energy sources. The hope is to transform Oklahoma's oil patch into a prairie of renewable energy.

Kansas as three operational wind farms, two in the southwest part of the state and one in the Flint Hills.

Karl Bergey, chairman and C-E-O of Bergey Windpower, says from Texas to the Dakotas are the --quote-- Saudi Arabia of wind. Bergey says the industry is going to grow rapidly as people realize how inexpensive wind energy is to produce.
