OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson is joining with consumer groups and other officials in stressing ways to avoid identity theft and other fraud.

Edmondson says the Number 1 complaint in Oklahoma is Internet dealings followed by problems with credit, sales, home repair, health care and loans and mortgages.

He says identity theft is an ever increasing problem and that it can take years to repair credit if personal information is stolen.

Edmondson advises destroying personal and financial documents by shredding them and if personal information is stolen then at risk accounts should be closed and law enforcement and the Federal Trade Commission notified.
