BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma Wesleyan University's e-Bay auction of a year of tuition, room and board at the private college began Sunday afternoon.
The opening bid was for one penny and had reached $1,025 by 8 p.m. The bidding will be open through Saturday.
University officials say the online auction site has told the private school that it doesn't know of any other college or university that has tried such an auction.
Bidders can buy the tuition for themselves or someone else. Among the bidders will be current students at the school, which has an enrollment of about 1,030 students and offers 39 majors and 24 minors.
A year of tuition, room and board at Oklahoma Wesleyan costs about $23,000.
University officials say the number of hits on the school's Web site have doubled since the auction was announced.
