Interstate 44 in east Tulsa has reopened after an overturned semi shut down several lanes for nearly seven hours Tuesday.
The driver was hauling close to 30,000 pounds of polypropylene when she ran off the road, over corrected and overturned her truck.
The accident happened at 4 AM Tuesday, in the eastbound I-44 between 145th and 161st Street. Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane for much of the morning. No one was injured and none of the material was spilled.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation risk manager Martin Stewart says the driver was reaching for her coffee when she lost control. "Besides getting up in the morning driving, the second most important thing that you do. Especially rush hour's in and out, both hands on the wheel."
A clean-up crew had to transfer the material from the semi to a different truck before a wrecker could move the overturned truck.
