A close call for a Muskogee County woman. She was awakened as her Webbers Falls home was burning by a man who was in the right place at the right time. The home is a total loss, but she's glad to be alive.

News on 6 anchor Craig Day says as a Muskogee County transit driver, Robert Brossett is used to helping people. He travels as many as 100 miles each day taking people in need to doctor appointments.

One day early this week was out of the ordinary. “When I pulled up to her house, the trailer was on fire." Brossett was picking up a client at this home in Webbers Falls to take to a scheduled dialysis treatment when he saw those flames. “Got to get those people out of there. Got to get them out of there."

Brossett quickly alerted the elderly woman inside and her adult son caring for her of the flame by honking his horn and banging on the door. Brossett usually comes to the home in Webbers Falls three times each week to provide transportation.

Considering how quickly a fire can spread the timing of his last visit made all the difference. The home is a total loss, but the woman inside, Gertrude Ennis and her son, were able to get out safely.

Brossett says he didn't do anything special, just that he was in the right place, at the right time. “I'm just glad I was working that day to go get her, otherwise it could have been a different outcome."

The home's owner is now staying with relatives. The News on 6 wasn't able to talk to her on camera for our report, but Craig Day did visit with her on the phone. She's thankful for Brossett's quick action.
