OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Members of Oklahoma's congressional delegation praise President Bush's State of Union address in which he proposed new initiatives in health care and energy.
Bush remained steadfast in his plans to send more US troops to Iraq while calling for an expanded health insurance coverage and a 20-percent decline in gasoline consumption last night.
Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole says Bush isn't looking at Iraq through rose-colored glasses and said congress should support his new plan or come up with an alternative.
Third District Representative Frank Lucas says he supports faster training of Iraq military and security forces to ensure the country is stable enough for US troops to withdraw.
Delegation members also lauded Bush for reiterating his immigration reform proposal to combine tougher border controls and other proposals such as a guest worker program.
Senator Tom Coburn, a medical doctor, said he liked Bush's plan to change the tax code to encourage more people not covered by medical insurance to buy a plan.
Coburn says that will reverse what he calls a slide toward socialized medicine.
