McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- A nighttime curfew will remain in effect in McIntosh and Pittsburg counties while crew struggle to return power to residents in southeastern Oklahoma.
Pittsburg County Emergency Management spokesman David Spears says a few break-ins have been reported, prompting officials to implement the curfew.
The curfew is from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. in Pittsburg County and from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. in McIntosh County.
Spears says the curfew won't be lifted until power is restored countywide and that fines will be given to curfew violators.
Officials say they hope the curfew will curb the thefts of generators from Union Pacific railroad crossings.
Union Pacific spokesman Joe Arbona said about 20 generators have been stolen from railroad crossings in the Eufaula, Checotah and McAlester areas.
