McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- Pittsburg County established an emergency management relief fund today to accept donations to help with the cleanup from last weekend's ice storm.
Thousands of people in McAlester remain without power, and others are struggling to find water.
Pittsburg County emergency management director Trent Myers says the fund is intended to help groups of people rather than individuals in need. He says the goal is to help as many people at one time as possible.
Businesses had approached the county about making donations, but the county had to receive special permission from the state auditor's office to accept them.
