The Tulsa County District Attorney has charged Christopher Moss with two counts of child pornography. Moss already faces charges in Ottawa County after investigators say he drove there to meet who he believed was an underage girl.
News on 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright explains why Tulsa parents need to beware of a cybercrime alert.
Investigators say Christopher Moss thought he was talking to an underage girl online and even drove to meet her in Miami, a few days before Christmas. They say he had pornographic videos, condoms and a switchblade in his truck with him. Turns out, he hadn't been chatting with a young girl, it was the undersheriff.
Ottawa County Sheriff Terry Durborow: "Not a doubt in the world what his intent was."
Since Moss lived in Tulsa and worked for the Tulsa Public Schools' transportation department at the time, officers here got a search warrant for Moss' home. They say that's when they discovered child pornography.
Now, detectives are asking for the public's help finding additional potential victims. Tulsa Police officer Scott Walton: "Any parent who has an idea their child has talked to on the computer, anyone going by ‘CMCowboy2000’, should be in contact with the police department."
Tulsa Police say predators count on children being allowed to be on the computer alone. Predators groom their victims by talking nicely to them on the phone and even buying them gifts. "It's a brain washing technique, they get in their heads and convince them that ultimately they want a situation where they can meet."
Parents and kids would like to think it won't happen to them, but police cases every week, show it can happen to anyone. If a parent discovers a child has been talking online to someone with the screen name, ‘CMCowboy2000’, call Tulsa Police.
If you’d like to see what your child has been doing online, you can hit ‘control-H’ to view their viewing history.
