OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A horse and a jockey who starred last year during Remington Park's quarter horse meet are honored by the American Quarter Horse Association.
The Amarillo, Texas-based AQHA named jockey G.R. Carter as its Champion Jockey for the fourth straight year. The Pawhuska native has won the award six times.
In 2006, he won 131 races, including 24 stakes, and his mounts earned more than $4.5 million.
He led the Remington Park jockey standings for the ninth time, finishing with 73 wins during the 50-day season.
Country Chicks Man, the 2005 Remington Park Horse of the Meeting, was named the 2006 Champion Aged Stallion.
The 6-year-old Oklahoma-bred son of Chicks Beduino never finished off the board in six starts last year, winning four of them.
Country Chicks Man, owned, trained and bred by Sparky Mullins of Wagoner and ridden by Carter, won three stakes races at Remington Park last year.
