OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority is ordering more salt to help treat roads, but it's not known when that salt might arrive.
Spokesman Jack Damrill says the authority has enough salt to use on the state's 10 turnpikes this weekend should another major winter storm that's been forecast arrive in the state.
The authority Wednesday, approved spending almost $500,000 to buy about 10,000 tons of salt.
Damrill says salt suppliers also are taking orders from agencies in other states, including Texas, Arkansas and Missouri.
He says estimates are that the turnpike authority spent about $900,000 to clear the roads after last weekend's ice storm.
That was enough to nearly exhaust both the authority's budget for snow and ice removal of $509,000 and its reserve fund of about $414,000.
