BYNG, Okla. (AP) -- Fire raced through a school in Byng, heavily damaging the structure and creating problems for firefighters who battled the flames in subfreezing temperatures.
Ada Fire Department Captain Roy Throne says the fire was reported at 8:26 PM Sunday at the Byng Junior High School north of Ada in Pontotoc County.
Firefighters from Ada and nearby communities were still battling the blaze late last night. Throne says no one was injured and says the state Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate its cause.
Firefighters fought flames as well as bitter cold temperatures. Temperatures were in the low 20s in Ada Sunday and water used to knock down the flames froze quickly.
