A Tulsa neighborhood gets caught in the middle of two crime scenes. Several people are in police custody and one man is hospitalized in serious condition.
It all happened in the 1500 block of North Main Friday afternoon. News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims has more on how the crimes unfolded.
Police are still sorting out exactly what happened Friday afternoon in a neighborhood near Queen and Main. One thing is clear; a neighborhood full of kids was caught in the crossfire between a shootout and a police chase.
It was a chaotic scene, ambulances taking off, police cars and fire trucks crowding the neighborhood street and neighbors coming out of their houses to see what's going on. But this isn't where the story begins. It actually started with a completely different crime in Osage County.
Security officers at the Million Dollar Elm casino say they saw several people stealing a duffle bag from a car in the casino parking lot. The Osage Nation police confronted the suspects and they took off leading the officers on a chase that ended in a crash in the North Tulsa neighborhood. Officers found the duffle bag in the crashed car and put all three occupants of the car in handcuffs.
Just around the corner from the car crash police found a whole new crime scene.
"Apparently there were numerous shots that were fired and we're trying to piece together where the victim was when he got shot," Tulsa Police Captain Steve Odom said.
When police arrived, a 24-year-old man was lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Officers say several men tried to leave the area, so they were forced to the ground, handcuffed and taken in for questioning.
The victim, who was shot in the back, was taken to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition.
So far police don't have a motive for the shooting. If you have any information on the crime call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS, your anonymous tip could earn you a cash reward.
