Thousands of people across the country have made New Years resolutions to lose weight, maybe you did.
If you're thinking of simply taking diet pills to burn your holiday fat, you'll want to hear what News on 6's Jennifer Loren found out.
The US government says some very popular diet pills are too good to be true and they've fined them millions of dollars for false advertising. Xenadrine EFX, CortiSlim, One a Day Weight Smart and TrimSpa are the pills drawing the Federal Trade Commission's criticism.
The marketers of those so-called diet pills have been fined a collaborative $25-million for false advertising. The FTC says the pills' makers lack scientific evidence supporting their weight-loss claims. Plus, they say the people in many of the before and after photos actually lost weight through diets and exercise.
Tulsa Dr. Ruth Miller agrees with the FTC. She's seen many patients who've tried the so-called miracle pills without success. "So if you're having problems losing weight its better to get physicians assistance rather than just go spend $40 to $100 on a bottle that you don't know if it works or not."
Dr. Miller says the best way to lose weight is to stop eating fast food, eat healthy and exercise, the answer is not in a bottle.
