Mail thefts are on the rise these days, particularly in west Tulsa.
Tulsa Police say homeowners are unwitting accomplices simply by using the mailbox. Residents put the monthly bill payments out for the postal carrier, but the thieves get there first. Audrey Rice: "I had end of the year payments out there, taxes, credit card bills, all that."
Not only did her payments never arrive, she could have been out a lot of money in forged checks.
A sharp eyed Tulsa business owner suspected something wasn't right when two men tried to cash one of Rice's checks. She caught the crooks on her surveillance camera, but they ran off.
Tulsa Police say don't put out-going mail in the box at your house. They recommend taking it to the US Post Office or handing it directly to your postal carrier.
