MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Baseball Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers owes Wisconsin more than $1.4 million in income taxes.
The state Department of Revenue lists Roland G. Fingers as No. 7 in the state of its top 100 delinquent taxpayers, owing $1,433,609. The address listed is in Las Vegas, where the birth date in public records matches the baseball player. He's listed as first among those owing only income taxes.
Fingers, a relief pitcher for 17 years, helped the Oakland A's win three consecutive World Series from 1972-74. He was a relief pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1981-1982 and in 1984-1985. He was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
The debt was first reported Dec. 26 by a political blogger on www.milwaukeeworld.com.
Revenue Department spokeswoman Meredith Helgerson said Wednesday that she couldn't confirm if the Fingers on the list is the former baseball player. She said the list started in January 2006 and Fingers was added on July 2006. She didn't know how far back the debts could go.
``I can't tell you how old his account is,'' she said.
A phone number was not listed for Fingers' Las Vegas address. A message left with Fingers' son Jason Fingers for his father was not immediately returned.
As a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1981, Fingers, known for his handlebar mustache, had 28 saves and a 1.04 ERA en route to the AL Cy Young Award and MVP. In helping the Brewers gain their first postseason appearance, Fingers figured in 55 percent of Milwaukee's victories.
