DUNCAN, Okla. (AP) -- Jari Askins has been sworn as Oklahoma's lieutenant governor.
Askins, a Democrat, was sworn in Tuesday evening to fill the remaining days of the term of Mary Fallin.
Fallin, a Republican, was elected in November to the U.S. House and gave notice last week that she was resigning at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Gov. Brad Henry, who won re-election, last week appointed Askins to fill out the remainder of Fallin's term.
Askins, 53, will be sworn in again on Monday along with the other statewide elected officers for the four-year term she won in the Nov. 7 election.
Former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph Watt gave Askins the oath of office Tuesday. Chief Justice James Winchester will swear in Askins next week on the south steps of the state Capitol.
