Green fired after three losing seasons

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) The Arizona Cardinals have fired coach Dennis Green.

Green rode into the Valley of the Sun vowing to turn around the downtrodden franchise, but failed to get the job done.

His dismissal comes one day after the Cardinals concluded a 5-11 season with a 27-20 loss at San Diego. Green went 16-32 in his three seasons with Arizona. The Cardinals will pay $2.5 million dollars to buy out the final year of his contract.

The team will now be searching for its eighth coach since the franchise moved to Arizona in 1988.
