NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- A cross-country race known as the "Great Race" will make several stops in Oklahoma next summer, including an overnight stay in Norman for the first time in ten years.
Vintage vehicles will move through the state beginning July 5th, with stops in Stilwell, Muskogee, Henryetta and an overnight stay in Norman.
The race will resume the next day with pit stops in Paul's Valley and Ardmore before moving into Texas and another overnight stay in Irving.
In Norman, about 250 classic cars are expected to stop at a finish line near the Sooner Theatre on Main Street.
The 4,000-mile race begins June 30th in Concord, North Carolina and ends July 14th in Orange County, California.
A recreation of the "Greatest Auto Race" of 1908, the current version is the brainchild of Tom McRae of Dallas, who said he wanted to get classic cars out of museums and back on the streets.
