BOLEY, Okla. (AP) -- A century-old water tower that appears on the National Historic Landmarks list may soon get a makeover.
Preservation Oklahoma and the National Trust for Historic Preservation has awarded a total of three-thousand dollars to study what needs to be done to restored the water tower in this Okfuskee County city.
The tower is deteriorating and the black lettering that spells BOLEY is becoming less visible as rust spreads across it. Recently, Preservation Oklahoma listed the tower as of one 13 items on its Most Endangered Historic Places List.
Although the tower has not been used in at least 30 years. but Boley mayor Joan Matthews said residents feel strongly that it cannot be demolished.
